A person who receives a power of attorney from another; not necessarily a lawyer. This word in the UK has a different meaning from the same word used in the USA. The power of attorney gives the authority to the attorney to undertake certain tasks on behalf of the donor (the one who gives the power). |

Barrister |

A person who is a member of one of the four Inns of Court. A barrister has rights of audience in the High Court, which used to be exclusive but which more recently is shared with certain solicitors. A barrister may give specialised advice to solicitors in "Conference". A barrister is "called to the Bar" when admitted after qualifying. |
Commissioner for Oaths |

An officer appointed by the Lord Chancellor to administer (i.e. to take) Oaths and Affirmations and Declarations to persons who com to them for this purpose. This office is now redundant since all practising solicitors can now do so without having to be commissioners. Older firms of solicitors may still designate themselves "Solicitors and Commissioners for Oaths" |
